Global semiconductor sales in September 2026 rose 146.8% year on year to $172.6 billion, up 7.9% month on month. Third-quarter three-month moving average sales were $517.7 billion, remaining above previous levels.

The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) announced that it had called for Congress to pass bipartisan bill S.5653, which would reform the U.S. permitting system. Statements were also issued on establishing GF operating companies for two facilities under the GF–Japan strategic investment initiative and expanding production capacity in the United States.
SIA welcomed GF's factory expansion under the Japan–U.S. initiative, saying cooperation between the two countries would strengthen the semiconductor supply chain in the United States. The initial investment will be $10 billion and the additional investment $11 billion, with Japan expected to provide all the funding for both facilities under the planned framework.
