A survey of 1,000 investors with financial assets of at least ¥100 million found that around 26% expect the Nikkei Stock Average to exceed ¥100,000 in 2030. Based on data from Ponta Research, the survey also shows trends in long-term forecasts.
According to the “Financial and Economic Forecasts Through 2050” survey conducted by 株式会社ロイヤリティマーケティング, which operates the Ponta shared-points service, around one-quarter of the 1,000 male and female members with financial assets of at least ¥100 million expected the Nikkei Stock Average to reach ¥100,000 or more in 2030. The survey was conducted online in July 2026.
By forecast date, the distribution for the current point in time (2 July 2026, with the Nikkei at around ¥69,000) was 46.9% expecting below ¥70,000, 49.0% expecting ¥70,000 or more but below ¥100,000, and 4.1% expecting ¥100,000 or more. The proportion expecting ¥100,000 or more was 26.4% for 2030, 37.9% for 2040 and 44.8% for 2050, indicating that increasingly optimistic views spread as the forecast horizon lengthened.
For forecasts of the US S&P 500 and global equities, a high proportion expected the S&P 500 to more than double from its current level by 2050, while in many cases more than half expected global equities to at least double. For the end of 2026, the forecast distribution tended to remain close to current levels, while expectations for gains strengthened in the long-term forecasts.
Long-term forecasts for bitcoin and gold included expectations that their 2050 prices would exceed current prices in multiple terms, while in some years a high proportion viewed bitcoin as remaining below 1 times its current price, indicating divided opinions. Expectations for USD/JPY to rise broadened after the end of 2029, while forecasts for the end of 2026 remained concentrated in the range from below ¥150 to below ¥170.
