Tokyu and Sumitomo Forestry unveiled a wooden commercial complex in front of Shin-Tsunashima Station in Yokohama on the 26th. Two new two-story wooden commercial buildings have been constructed on the site, with the aim of creating greater activity in the surrounding area. The complex is scheduled to open on the 28th. It will house a total of 21 stores, including restaurants and drugstores.
The two newly built two-story wooden buildings have a total floor area of approximately 2,600 square metres. Sumitomo Forestry handled their design and construction.
A bistro will occupy the renovated main house of the former Iketani residence, which has a total floor area of approximately 350 square metres. The planning and design of the building were supervised by the Institute of Regenerative Architecture, while the existing columns and beams were retained as far as possible and the foundations reinforced.
Shin-Tsunashima Station opened in 2023 with the launch of the Tokyu Shin-Yokohama Line. While redevelopment is progressing in front of the station, the surrounding area is a low-rise residential district. The use of the traditional Japanese house and wooden commercial facilities is intended to improve pedestrian circulation between the station frontage and the residential area.
