Apple's first foldable smartphone is expected to be unveiled at a September launch event, but the US may launch first, with other countries waiting several months for the device.
Apple's foldable smartphone is expected to be unveiled in September. Its official name has not been confirmed, but reports suggest it may be called the "iPhone Ultra" or "iPhone Fold." The expected launch structure would allow only US consumers to place preorders initially, while other markets such as Australia are expected to wait several months to receive the device.
According to a report by ChannelNews, major markets including China are expected to receive shipments after the US, based on information from anonymous component suppliers. The price has not been announced, and estimates range from around $2,000 to $2,300-$2,500.
On the production side, problems with the hinge and display have been reported. There is also information that the planned start of mass production in early June was postponed to August and that production remains sluggish. ChannelNews expects production of 7 million units in the second half of 2026, while Ku expects third-quarter shipments of 1 million units and estimates shipments of the iPhone 18 Pro/Max at 20 million-22 million units.
The report is said to have been adapted for the Japanese market from an overseas article by Ziff Davis.
