JR Kyushu announced that the impact of the Kumamoto Earthquake was approximately ¥17 billion. Lost revenue from damaged railway facilities and service suspensions led to a downward revision to its full-year earnings forecast, with net profit expected to be ¥47 billion.
JR Kyushu announced on the 4th that the impact of the Kumamoto Earthquake amounted to approximately ¥17 billion for the group as a whole. It consequently revised down its full-year consolidated earnings forecast and set net profit at ¥47 billion. The outlook for operating revenue, equivalent to sales, was left unchanged, but the lost revenue became a factor weighing on earnings.
The company estimated approximately ¥9 billion in losses related to restoring damaged railway facilities and rolling stock. It is discussing the allocation of costs with the organisation that owns the Shinkansen facilities, so the amount may change. In addition, it calculated approximately ¥6.7 billion in lost revenue resulting from the Kyushu Shinkansen taking about 50 days to resume service across the entire line and part of the conventional railway network remaining out of service for approximately 2.5 months.
For the fiscal year ending March 2027, the earnings forecast for operating revenue was left unchanged at ¥520.5 billion. Although earthquake-related lost revenue will be a factor, the forecast was maintained in light of strong performance in the real-estate and hotel businesses.
For the six months ended September 2026, operating revenue rose 3.7% year on year to ¥246.4 billion, a record high for an interim period. Net profit fell 3.8% to ¥21.4 billion due to the loss recognised from the Kumamoto Earthquake, marking the third consecutive year of declining profit.
