In a speech, Bank of Japan Deputy Governor Himino Ryozo (氷見野 良三) said that, given the current accommodative financial conditions, monetary policy should be eased off at an appropriate time, indicating that the Bank intends to maintain its rate-hike path.
Regarding price trends, he said that the Bank would consider the possibility of inflation exceeding 2% and emphasized that the merits of raising rates would be discussed at every Monetary Policy Meeting.
He said policy decisions would be considered in light of changes in the economic and price outlook, including factors such as the situation in the Middle East, expanding demand related to AI and the effects of foreign-exchange movements.
He also expressed the view that an early response would be desirable in order to avoid a situation in which policy changes are delayed and inflation advances.
