Club Tourism has launched an initiative to provide coordinated support in 3 regions for promoting littering etiquette among international visitors and encouraging behavioral change by developing tourism content around the waste problem. The regions are Inawashiro, Fukushima Prefecture; Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima Prefecture; and Kikai, Kagoshima Prefecture. The initiative aims to create a model that curbs the generation of litter while enhancing the appeal of local tourism.
The project is being implemented as a model project of the Ministry of the Environment and is being promoted jointly with the Environmental Management Center. Club Tourism and the Environmental Management Center will divide responsibilities based on their respective strengths and proceed with verifying the initiative's effectiveness.
The companies intend to roll out the model nationwide in the future based on the results of its verification, with the aim of achieving both a clean, comfortable tourism environment and greater appeal for tourist destinations.
The initiative is positioned as an effort to improve the experience of international visitors while addressing the waste problem at the same time.
