In the “Good Room Net Town Attractiveness Ranking 2026: Prefectural Edition” announced by Daito Trust Construction, Kanagawa ranked first, Fukuoka second and Hyogo third. The results combined evaluations by residents and non-residents.
This ranking defines “town attractiveness” in terms of resident satisfaction and how readily the appeal is conveyed to non-residents. It presents prefectural attractiveness in the top 20 and ranks 21 to 40. Kanagawa ranked first, Fukuoka second and Hyogo third, followed by Kyoto in fourth and Tokyo in fifth. Kanagawa ranked fourth in evaluations by residents and first in evaluations by non-residents, receiving high ratings from both groups.
The survey was conducted with the cooperation of Daito Trust Construction's Rental Housing Future Research Institute and Macromill, covering all 47 prefectures and 1,890 municipalities. Residential satisfaction, satisfaction with buildings and intentions to continue living in the area were scored on a 5-point scale, while non-resident evaluations were compiled using either 2-choice or 5-point scales. There were 181,267 respondents, and the survey period ran from 10 February to 22 March 2026.
For attractiveness as tourist destinations, Hokkaido ranked first, followed by Kyoto and Okinawa in second and third place. In non-resident evaluations, Hokkaido ranked first for nature, food and scenic sites; Kyoto ranked first for historic buildings and cultural properties; and Okinawa ranked highly for climate and nature.
