UP–Japan Investment Meet 2026 was held in Uttar Pradesh, India, with more than 200 business representatives from Japan in attendance. Plans for a Japan City and multiple investment projects were unveiled.
UP–Japan Investment Meet 2026 was held from 18 to 23 August 2026 to strengthen cooperation between Uttar Pradesh and Japan. The welcome ceremony was attended by Japan’s Minister of Commerce and Industry and the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, while the Japanese delegation was led by the Governor of Yamanashi Prefecture. Discussions during the event covered a broad range of areas, including investment, technology cooperation and job creation, in addition to promoting foreign direct investment (FDI).
The state is advancing plans for a “Japan City,” with a proposal to develop an integrated industrial hub on approximately 500 acres of land within the jurisdiction of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA). The initiative aims to consolidate supply chains and create large-scale employment, drawing on surrounding infrastructure in industries such as semiconductors, electronics and data centers.
Specific investment projects include one being developed by Escorts Kubota, worth approximately ₹2.025 billion and expected to create more than approximately 3,800 jobs. Minda Corporation plans to invest approximately ₹1.166 billion and expects to create approximately 6,440 jobs. Some observers noted that the participation of more than 200 representatives from Japan reflected growing confidence in India-Japan relations.
The Yogi administration has emphasized that the partnership should extend beyond factories to technology centers, R&D facilities, skills centers and global supply chains. Japan City, which is intended to attract clusters of Japanese companies, suppliers and related industries, will be a factor determining future progress.
