The China International Import Expo opened in Beijing, China, on the 5th. The international trade fair, championed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, attracted many companies from around the world.
Officially, more than 4,100 companies and other exhibitors are reported to be participating, including Japanese companies. The Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) booth hosted 155 companies, more than last year, and an event offering an interactive experience with Japanese food was also held.
An official from JETRO's Shanghai office said the organization wants to promote product branding and marketing through companies' participation in the import expo, and expressed the view that interest in the Chinese market remains strong amid Japan-China relations.
Japanese companies sought to promote advanced technologies as well as content unique to Japan, appealing to the vast market.
