The Nikkei Average opened higher for a second straight session in the Tokyo stock market on the 24th, with buying led by semiconductor stocks. The opening level was ¥65,476.44, up ¥457.49, or 0.7%, from the previous close, and the gain briefly exceeded ¥600 after the open.
Following the spread of buying in the US market, led by AI and semiconductor stocks, related shares also rose in Tokyo. The Nikkei Average continued to climb after the open, starting the session at ¥65,476.44.
Advantest and Tokyo Electron traded modestly higher, while SoftBank Group was up about 6%. Fast Retailing also remained firm as a stock with a high contribution to the index.
Among major stocks, Toyota Motor and Sony Group were at times slightly lower, so gains were not broad-based. Falling crude oil prices were also one factor supporting Japanese stocks.
After stocks fell following a rise in interest rates in the US market the previous day, some market participants expect a stronger wait-and-see mood ahead of the US-China summit.
