The Nikkei 225 rebounded sharply, with the morning close at ¥66,318.81 and estimated trading volume of 925.23 million shares. Buying led the market after the opening, and it remained in positive territory as investors assessed downside factors.
Following the decline in US equities, buying led the Nikkei 225 from the opening on the 30th, and the index rose ¥837.54 in the morning session to ¥66,318.81. The easing of concerns over the situation in the Middle East and the resulting decline in crude oil prices, along with buying in semiconductor-related, wire and cable, and nonferrous metal stocks, helped the market remain firm.
Among individual stocks, gainers included SoftBank Group, Tokyo Electron, Advantest, Fast Retailing, Fujikura, Kioxia Holdings, Shin-Etsu Chemical, TDK, Taiyo Yuden, Sumitomo Electric, Mitsubishi Corp., Otsuka Holdings, Toyota Tsusho, Itochu, and MinebeaMitsumi. Meanwhile, Ibiden, Murata Manufacturing, Kyocera, Recruit Holdings, Nitto Denko, Konami Group, Olympus, ZOZO, Secom, Nichirei, Astellas Pharma, Kikkoman, Mitsukoshi Isetan, and Eisai fell.
By sector, nonferrous metals, marine transportation and banks rose, while fisheries, agriculture and forestry, services and land transportation fell. In the afternoon session, the Nikkei 225 tested its 75-day moving average in the ¥66,000 range. With US long-term interest rates, the US August PCE deflator and Micron's earnings announcement due, buying was subdued at times.
