SBI Holdings announced details of the unauthorised outflow incident at Binance, explaining that the impact on the SBI Group was limited and that there was no impact on customer assets. Binance, meanwhile, announced an estimated impact of approximately $6.3 billion and said that approximately $3.0 billion had been frozen on-chain.
On 30 October 2026, SBI Holdings announced that its exposure to the unauthorised outflow incident at overseas crypto-asset exchange Binance was limited and that there would be no impact on the SBI Group's consolidated results. The domestic crypto-asset exchanges SBI VC Trade and bitbank continue to provide services as usual, and the companies said that customer assets had not been affected.
In an official announcement dated the same day, Binance estimated the total impact of the incident at approximately $6.3 billion and announced that approximately $3.0 billion had been frozen on-chain as of that time. It outlined the suspension of deposits and withdrawals, the tracking of frozen assets and its policy for covering losses, emphasising the protection of user assets.
The initial investigation indicated that a laptop used by a DevOps engineer had been compromised and that the attacker may have accessed service containers. However, no conclusive evidence of the leakage of private keys has been found, and a final report is needed to determine the intrusion route and specific methods used.
The SBI Group's explanation is based on Binance's policy for covering losses, and its domestic affiliates intend to continue normal operations and safeguard customer assets. Any additional disclosures that arise will be announced promptly.
