Tokyo Metro and Mitsubishi Electric will introduce a new main circuit system combining the synchronous reluctance motor system (SynTRACS) and ultra-compact VVVF inverter equipment on the Tozai Line 05 series trains. The system is expected to improve energy efficiency compared with the conventional induction motor system, marking the world’s first combined deployment.
SynTRACS consists of a synchronous reluctance motor and the inverter that controls it. Energy savings of approximately 18% have been confirmed through demonstration tests, including those conducted on the Hibiya Line 13000 series trains. Deployment on the Tozai Line 05 series is expected to deliver further efficiency gains, with energy savings of approximately 20–30%. The application of the latest SiC power semiconductor devices and high-performance CPUs is expected to reduce volume by approximately 81% and weight by approximately 43% compared with conventional equipment.
