At its general meeting of shareholders, SoftBank announced its new medium-term management plan, “Activate AI for Society.” Alongside a growth strategy aimed at creating social infrastructure centered on AI, the company outlined plans to develop an AI server manufacturing business in Japan and build out its own cloud network.
SoftBank held its 40th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders on 23 June 2026 and unveiled a growth strategy under its new medium-term management plan, “Activate AI for Society,” covering fiscal years 2026 through 2030. The company reported that it achieved higher revenue and operating profit in FY2025, with revenue of ¥7.0387 trillion and operating profit of ¥1.0426 trillion, and said it is targeting operating profit of ¥1.7 trillion and net profit of ¥700 billion in FY2030.
The company will make a surprise entry into AI server manufacturing, or assembly, in Japan, while establishing an integrated system for the manufacture and operation of servers equipped with GPUs. It aims to begin manufacturing in FY2027, with development under consideration in Sakai, Osaka Prefecture, and Tomakomai, Hokkaido. In addition, SoftBank will launch its “Neo Cloud” business, allowing customers to use GPU environments as they would a cloud service, and will begin building its US operations within the current fiscal year.
The company also said it plans to accelerate development across a range of technologies that will underpin an AI-driven society, including innovative batteries, next-generation memory, and preparations for domestic trial services for HAPS (high-altitude platform station), which delivers communications from the stratosphere. At the general meeting, a new management structure, including the election of 13 directors, was approved, and CFO Akiyama Osamu (秋山 修) took office. Izawa Tsuyoshi (出澤 剛), president of LY Corporation, and Nakayama Ichiro (中山 一郎), president of PayPay, were among those newly appointed as directors.
SoftBank’s strategy is to control the entire chain through vertical integration, from server manufacturing to data centers and its own cloud network, and to promote the development of social infrastructure centered on AI. In its explanation to shareholders, the company said that AI-related investments had already begun contributing to earnings.
