大阪ガス released its results after the close on 29 October, reporting consolidated ordinary profit of ¥82.7 billion for the first half (April-September), down 21.6% year on year. Revenue was little changed from the previous fiscal year, while the operating margin deteriorated from 8.6% in the same period a year earlier to 5.3%. Progress against the full-year plan was 43.5%, below the three-year average of 48.0%.
Ordinary profit for the latest three-month period, July-September (the second quarter), was ¥32.4 billion, down 29.6% year on year. The deterioration in profit during the period was affected by the decline in the operating margin, confirming a substantial deterioration in profitability compared with the cumulative April-September period.
Based on first-half results and the full-year plan, the company calculated that consolidated ordinary profit for October-March (the second half) is expected to rise 8.3% year on year to ¥107.2 billion. While this implies a recovery in second-half earnings, the figure is considered subject to change depending on actual results.
The earnings report indicates that further revisions may be made, and the outlook toward the end of the fiscal year may change depending on the assumptions underpinning achievement of the existing plan.
