Regarding the AI market after the U.S. midterm elections, Saito Kazuyoshi (斎藤和嘉) said that investment would remain firm even if data centers were delayed. The market swung sharply in response to the election results, with the Nikkei 225 briefly approaching a break below ¥60,000.
In Tokyo trading on 4 November, the Nikkei 225 swung sharply. AI-related and semiconductor stocks were sold ahead of the U.S. midterm election results, but the index rebounded at the close on short covering. The Nikkei 225 was sharply lower from the previous day and showed an RH move.
In the United States, opposition from residents to AI data centers and concerns over massive investment have spread, strengthening doubts about the sustainability of the semiconductor industry's ecosystem. Against this backdrop, market participants are assessing the election results.
Regarding the Japanese market, Saito Kazuyoshi (斎藤和嘉), a senior analyst at Iwai Cosmo Securities, said the market reaction was excessive, while analyzing that the United States would not slow AI investment from the perspectives of economic security and national defense.
Saito's view is that long-term investment trends related to AI remain firm, based on the continuity of U.S. AI investment even if data center investment is delayed.
