A plan is in place to install solar carports over approximately 1,000 of the approximately 3,800 parking spaces at Aeon Mall Hakusan, with operation and power generation targeted to begin in 2027. Maximum output is expected to be approximately 3,300 kilowatts, with the electricity expected to be used within the mall and supplied to EV charging facilities.
Construction of solar carports is under way in the parking area of Aeon Mall Hakusan in Yokoe, Hakusan, Ishikawa. The project covers approximately 1,000 of the approximately 3,800 parking spaces, with completion and the start of power generation expected in 2027.
The solar carports are intended to supply renewable energy by making effective use of the outdoor parking area, while also providing shade and shelter from rain. The design minimizes the placement of columns in the surface parking area and uses bifacial panels that take advantage of power generation on the rear side. Maximum output after the start of operation is expected to be approximately 3,300 kilowatts, with the electricity generated to be consumed within the mall and supplied to EV charging facilities.
The system is currently operating at 16 stores nationwide. After announcing a plan in January 2024 to install approximately 15,000 kilowatts at outdoor parking areas in the Kanto and Kansai regions, the company expanded the target area nationwide. No plans are currently reported for installations at other malls in Ishikawa or Toyama.
The adoption of solar carports is also progressing among companies in Ishikawa Prefecture, where they are expected to protect employee parking areas and serve as rest areas during disasters. TAKAMATSU MACHINERY CO.,LTD. in Hakusan and Toshin Seiki in Nomi are among the companies cited as having installed them.
