Kioxia Holdings Corporation announced plans to build a third manufacturing building at its Kitakami Plant in Iwate Prefecture. The company plans to invest approximately ¥5 trillion over the 6 years through 2032, with construction costs expected to total ¥1.8 trillion.
Kioxia Holdings Corporation President Hiroo Ota (太田裕雄) visited the Prime Minister's Office and informed Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi (高市早苗) of the decision to build a third manufacturing building at the Kitakami Plant in Iwate Prefecture. Total investment is expected to amount to approximately ¥1.8 trillion, contingent on government support.
The investment is intended to increase production capacity for 3D flash memory, with operations targeted to begin during fiscal 2029 at the Kitakami and Yokkaichi plants. President Ota expressed a positive outlook at a press conference.
The Kitakami Plant's second manufacturing building began operations in September last year, and construction of the third building is also moving forward against a backdrop of rising memory demand. The company plans to develop facilities, including related infrastructure and technology enhancements, with government support.
The plan forms part of a policy to invest approximately ¥5 trillion over the 6 years through 2032, with the aim of responding to expanding demand for AI.
