UCC Japan has launched on Roblox a coffee farm game jointly developed with Sumitomo Corporation, allowing players to experience the entire process from growing coffee to roasting it. The initiative has been reported as the world's first of its kind.
On 5 August, UCC Japan launched on Roblox BECOME A COFFEE FARMER, a coffee farm game jointly developed with Sumitomo Corporation. The game lets players experience the full process, from growing and harvesting coffee to processing, roasting and selling it, and is described as the world's first coffee-growing game on Roblox.
Players explore an island to find coffee and grow it on their own farm. After harvesting, they experience the processes of drying, hulling, removing defective beans, sorting and roasting. They can then sell the finished coffee to earn coins, upgrade their tools and improve their farm. Up to 9 players can participate simultaneously in one server, and leveling up provides advantages when expanding the exploration area and finding rare beans.
At a presentation event, 2 children demonstrated the game. They were shown finding a hidden passage and harvesting coffee, then proceeding through the bean-sorting and roasting processes without hesitation. The developers said they focused on balancing the realism of the processing stages with the enjoyment of the game, adjusting the implementation by retaining some elements of the real-world process while simplifying others for gameplay.
Going forward, the company plans to incorporate themes such as environmental issues and farming methods that take nature into account, based on user feedback, and expects to expand the game's educational elements. UCC has set a goal of expanding the reach of its sustainability education to 300,000 people by 2030. As part of its track record, it provided education to 216,741 people from August 2021 through the end of 2025.
