The Nikkei Average rose for a fifth straight session in the Tokyo stock market on the 25th, returning to the ¥66,000 range for the first time in 2 weeks. Buying of AI and semiconductor-related stocks and purchases aimed at capturing interim dividend entitlements pushed up the market.
The Nikkei Average closed at ¥66,364 in the Tokyo stock market on the 25th, up ¥850 from the previous day, recovering to the ¥66,000 range for the first time in 2 weeks. Buying of AI and semiconductor-related stocks, along with purchases aimed at capturing interim dividend entitlements, provided support.
In the domestic bond market, the yield on newly issued 10-year Japanese government bonds briefly reached 3.115%, its highest level in about 30 years, amid the impact of higher interest rates globally. There was also a view that concerns over a renewed rise in inflationary pressure from higher crude oil prices were spreading to domestic interest rates.
Among the factors cited as driving market movements, buying of AI and semiconductor-related stocks pushed up the market, while purchases aimed at capturing dividend entitlements also helped sustain the upward momentum.
