MUFG announces a strategic partnership with Google and aims to take the lead through the implementation of AI agents for comprehensive retail financial services. It also aims to expand エムット, a retail financial service, and integrate financial services into everyday life.
MUFG and Google Cloud Japan plan to form a strategic partnership to strengthen digital capabilities in the retail sector. They indicated their intention to establish a new framework for AI applications, including agentic commerce and agentic payments.
The partnership centers on realizing autonomous AI financial services. The aim is for users to set only the final approval and transaction terms, with AI handling the other operations. The partners said they plan to enable deeper involvement than conventional conversational AI.
As a revenue model, the plan calls for AI agents to generate payment-fee revenue in the same way as ordinary financial transactions. The PoC is targeted for completion during FY2026, with the full service scheduled to launch in FY2027.
MUFG aims to expand its retail business centered on エムット, a retail financial service, by integrating it with Google's services. It has selected Google Cloud as the infrastructure platform for its digital bank.
Building on their track record of collaboration, MUFG indicated that it will work with Google to create value through digital services.
