Kawasaki Heavy Industries has delivered the newbuild vessel AURORA BOREALIS to KUMIAI NAVIGATION. The 86,700 m3 vessel is designed to carry mixed LPG and ammonia cargoes, with expanded cargo capacity while retaining the basic design of the conventional model, and is also capable of transporting ammonia in the future.
On 29 October 2026, Kawasaki Heavy Industries delivered the LPG/ammonia carrier AURORA BOREALIS. The recipient is KUMIAI NAVIGATION, and the vessel is designed to carry LPG and ammonia simultaneously as mixed cargoes.
The vessel has increased cargo capacity from the conventional 84,000 m3 model. Cargo hold capacity is approximately 87,058 m3, deadweight is approximately 56,375 tonnes, and gross tonnage is approximately 49,561 tonnes. The main engine is one Kawasaki-MAN B&W 6G60ME-C10.5-LGIP unit.
The vessel is 229.90 m long, 37.20 m in breadth and 21.90 m in depth, with a loaded draft of 11.65 m. Service speed is approximately 17.0 knots, and the vessel has a complement of 29.
A shaft generator is installed to supply onboard electricity from the main engine output, minimising the use of diesel generators. The vessel's environmentally conscious design also enables operation on LPG fuel.
The delivery date is 29 October 2026. To ensure access to major LPG terminals worldwide, the vessel's tank capacity has been expanded without significantly altering the conventional hull design.
