Regarding the issue of unpaid construction costs for overseas pavilions at the Expo, the Angolan government indicated that it would pay part of the outstanding amount on humanitarian grounds. Specifically, it is expected to cover approximately ¥17 million of the approximately ¥43 million unpaid balance.
Exclusive reporting has revealed progress in the issue of unpaid construction costs for overseas pavilions. Kenji Kita (来田健二) was responsible for the electrical work as a fourth-tier subcontractor for the Angola Pavilion, but approximately ¥43 million owed by the third-tier subcontractor remained unpaid.
In April this year, the Angolan government conveyed its decision to pay 40% of the unpaid amount on humanitarian grounds. As a result, approximately ¥17 million will be paid to Mr. Kita's company on a covered-on-its-behalf basis.
The reason given for the government's decision was that a Spanish company had petitioned for help for Mr. Kita. Even now, approximately one year after the Expo ended, the related companies continue to face severe cash-flow conditions.
This case has been reported as a significant step forward among the unpaid-payment issues involving multiple pavilions, and attention is focused on developments regarding further information.
