HAZAMA ANDO CORPORATION, NTT and 1FINITY conducted a demonstration test of high-capacity communications using IOWN technology at a mountain tunnel construction site. They installed 1,100 m of optical fiber inside the tunnel and simulated long-distance communications equivalent to 1,000 km using 6 transmission devices, verifying the feasibility of remote construction management.
The demonstration test was conducted at a mountain tunnel construction site, with verification of high-capacity communications using IOWN technology carried out at the Tsubakihara Tunnel construction site in March 2026. A 1,100 m optical fiber cable was installed inside the tunnel, and 6 optical transmission devices were installed at 100 m intervals from the tunnel face.
To accommodate the harsh underground conditions, the equipment was stored in IP65-rated enclosures. An IOWN APN environment was built using the 1FINITY Ultra Optical System to simulate long-distance communications over 1,000 km.
The project addressed the challenge of remote management at worksites facing labor shortages, an aging workforce and high disaster risks, with the aim of establishing a technology platform for remote monitoring, inspection, analysis and monitoring. Operational trials connecting multiple sites are scheduled to be rolled out in stages from fiscal 2027 onward, with effectiveness in real-world environments to be verified.
