The Nikkei Average VI rose sharply to 27.90 as of 2:10 p.m. Concerns over volatility in the Tokyo market have intensified amid firm US stocks and movements in the SOX Index, as well as rising long-term yields.
The Nikkei Average VI was up 3.67 from the previous day as of 2:10 p.m., a 15.15% increase, to 27.90. The high so far today was 28.35 and the low was 27.60.
Buying dominated the Tokyo market following firm performance in US equity markets and a sharp rise in the SOX Index, but domestic long-term yields also rose after US long-term yields climbed in overseas markets. As a result, concerns over rising volatility in the Nikkei VI remain heightened.
The Nikkei Average VI is an indicator of the magnitude of expected market fluctuations over the coming 1 month. It is said to tend to revert to a certain range, generally around 20–30, after a sharp rise.
