SUSMED has begun selling Medcle, an app for insomnia disorder, and expects substantial revenue growth in the fiscal year ending June 2027. Expansion of the DTx business and growth in platform business contracts are cited as growth drivers.
SUSMED operates product and platform businesses in digital therapeutics (DTx), developing therapeutic apps and providing operational support for clinical trials. Medcle is an app intended to treat insomnia disorder. Insurance coverage is already in place, and the app is positioned as Japan's first medical device covered by public health insurance.
With the launch of Medcle and following the end of its exclusive distribution agreement with Shionogi & Co., Ltd., SUSMED is establishing a structure under which it will conduct sales activities independently and record the full amount of sales as product revenue. The impact of the agreement's termination is considered minor, and it is viewed as having a potentially positive effect on future profitability.
In the fiscal year ended June 2026, revenue increased, supported by milestone income, while the operating loss widened because of higher selling, general and administrative expenses.
For the fiscal year ending June 2027, business revenue is expected to rise substantially by 68.7% year on year to ¥838 million. The company has set targets of adoption by 1,000 healthcare institutions and 2,000 monthly prescriptions for Medcle, while planning to continue operating SUSMED SDS and expand its development pipeline. Higher development, advertising and personnel costs are also expected.
