The Nikkei 225 rose from the previous close after the Tokyo stock market opened on the 4th, starting 284.46 yen higher at ¥64,498.94. Firm US equities the previous day and movements in long-term interest rates provided buying support, and the broader market remained firm. By stock, SoftBank Group, Furukawa Electric, Nitori Holdings, Fujitsu and Fujikura were among those that traded firmly.
In terms of current prices, Furukawa Electric was up ¥137 at ¥3,750, Fujikura was up ¥97 at ¥5,048, Fujitsu was up ¥98 at ¥3,893, Nitori Holdings was up ¥52 at ¥3,327, and SoftBank Group was up ¥361 at ¥5,362. Buying prevailed immediately after the open, with sectors including Information and Communications and non-ferrous metals also advancing.
The overall market was susceptible to buying on dips in anticipation of a rebound from the previous day's four-session losing streak, while remaining influenced by the US market. There is a view that trends in the European and US markets, crude oil prices and comments from Federal Reserve officials will provide clues for the market's subsequent direction.
By sector, Securities and Commodities Futures, Insurance, Services, non-ferrous metals, and Information and Communications were among the top gainers, while Textiles, Pharmaceuticals, Rubber Products, and Precision Instruments declined. The TOPIX was up 14.59, and the Nikkei 225 got off to a firm start.
