SAVI's first Tokyo exhibition, “SAVI EXHIBITION — Amulets of Silence —,” will be held at Matsubaya Saryo from 6 to 10 November 2026. The exhibition will be open to the public from 7 to 10 November at Matsubaya Saryo in Minami-Aoyama, Minato-ku, Tokyo. The 6 November opening will be a private view by invitation only.
SAVI is an artist who reinterprets the traditional Japanese craft of armour as contemporary art and is based in London. The designs are created at a London studio and brought to life by armourers in Kyoto. SAVI's family business dealt in dolls and armour, providing the foundation for the artist's work in craftsmanship and traditional beauty.
The exhibition will feature one-of-a-kind or limited-edition works made from a range of materials, including lacquer, Nishijin textiles, silk, leather, braided cords, metal and precious stones, from a 180 cm life-size dedicatory suit of armour to palm-sized sculptural works. The collaborative work “PENKO SAVI” is also scheduled to be exhibited.
On the opening day, SAVI will give a talk starting at 18:30 on 6 November about the background to the works, the philosophy of protection, and the connection between tradition and the present day. The atmosphere at the venue is also scheduled to be streamed on Instagram LIVE.
