With support from Tsumura through the Smile Smile Project, the 4th Kids Seminar was held in August at Tsumura’s Ibaraki Plant and Kampo Memorial Museum. Eight families, comprising 28 children and family members undergoing or having completed treatment, had the opportunity to become familiar with Kampo medicine through crude drug experiences, a plant tour and Artrium creation.
In August, the 4th Kids Seminar was held at Tsumura’s Ibaraki Plant and Tsumura Kampo Memorial Museum as part of the domestic Smile Smile Project. The participants were 8 families, comprising 28 children undergoing treatment for pediatric cancer and their family members. They took part in crude drug experiences, a plant tour and Artrium creation.
The children handled actual crude drugs, learning about their characteristics and aromas, and deepened their understanding through observation and questions. Crude drugs were also used as materials for the Artrium creations, allowing the children to work on imaginative pieces.
During the plant tour, participants learned about the manufacturing process and history of Kampo products and deepened their knowledge through a quiz rally. The discussion session provided an opportunity for families to share their experiences of hospitalization and day-to-day concerns, fostering bonds and empathy among families who had experienced long-term treatment.
Families commented that they had been able to take part in experiences not normally available to them and learn about Kampo medicine in an enjoyable way. The event conveyed Tsumura’s support and commitment to medical assistance.
