AbbVie Japan has launched a pediatric oral solution of Rinvoq, a JAK inhibitor. Doses are set according to body weight, providing an administration method not available with tablets.
AbbVie Japan has launched a pediatric oral solution as a new dosage form of Rinvoq, a JAK inhibitor that suppresses inflammation. The indication is polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis with inadequate response to existing treatment, with weight-based doses administered twice daily. The solution is drawn from the bottle with a syringe and administered against the inside of the cheek. A dose of 3 mL is used for patients weighing 10 kg or more and less than 20 kg, 4 mL for 20 kg or more and less than 30 kg, and 6 mL for 30 kg or more.
The oral solution is easier to administer to children and enables weight-based dosing. An additional indication for tablets for patients aged 2 years and older was approved in August, and the new dosage form is expected to expand pediatric treatment options. The drug price is ¥343,101.60 for a 180 mL bottle, including a pediatric premium in the price calculation.
