Japan’s weather app Weathernews has released a global version available in 190 countries. It is bringing Japanese-quality weather and disaster-prevention information to users worldwide, while expanding its rain radar, alert and notification features.
Weathernews, widely used in Japan, has officially launched a global version of its app. Within two weeks of its release, the app reportedly ranked No. 1 in the app stores of six countries and regions, among other signs of growing use worldwide.
The global version’s core features include extending Weathernews’ existing high-accuracy forecasts for Japan to overseas users, as well as global and local coverage in its rain radar. Users can view forecasts on a 1 km grid at 10-minute intervals, covering up to 30 hours ahead.
Alert and disaster-prevention information has also been enhanced, with map displays available in 57 languages and more than 40 types of alert icons. Users overseas can quickly access local information through a switch to the original-language display and location-linked push notifications.
