Sumitomo Forestry has launched “PRIME SLEEP = Image,” a bedroom-space proposal designed to create an optimal sleep environment, offering bedroom layouts, interiors and equipment tailored to each customer's lifestyle and sleep needs.
The proposal combines Sumitomo Forestry's expertise in design and interiors with its wood interior materials and research knowledge about wood from the Tsukuba Research Institute. It identifies 5 elements: the benefits of wood, lighting design, acoustic design, the air environment and spatial harmony. Lighting design involves switching the color and positioning of lighting at bedtime and upon waking to recreate changes in natural daylight indoors.
Acoustic design uses sound-absorbing materials such as thick curtains, as well as floor-plan measures such as placing storage between adjoining rooms, to create a quiet acoustic environment suited to sleep. Sleep is said to affect health, quality of life and daytime performance, and the proposal seeks to address social issues related to sleep.
