The combined parcel volume handled by the 3 major parcel delivery companies in FY2025 rose 2.7% year on year to 4.844 billion parcels, maintaining its highest level since FY2020. This upward trend is expected to continue in FY2025 as well.
The combined parcel volume handled by Yamato Transport, Sagawa Express and Japan Post in FY2025 totaled 4.844 billion parcels, an increase of 126 million parcels from FY2024. All 3 companies exceeded their results for the previous year, as demand growth during the COVID-19 pandemic continued to provide support.
Looking back at the historical trend, the combined volume for the 3 companies increased sharply by 500 million parcels year on year in FY2020 amid a surge in stay-at-home demand. In FY2021, the growth rate slowed to 2.2% because of the subsequent pullback, but volume still increased by approximately 100 million parcels, maintaining its strong performance.
Demand stagnated from FY2022 onward, with growth limited to 1%, and in some years 2 of the 3 companies recorded year-on-year declines. Stagnation continued in FY2023, when 2 companies fell below their previous-year results. Although performance was weak in the first half of FY2024, volume began trending upward toward the second half, and this trend has continued into FY2025.
