A survey by the handmade-goods marketplace 創作品モールあるる found that, when repeatedly purchasing food and daily necessities, nearly 70% of two-person households leaned toward bulk purchases and tended to prioritize the ability to reduce the price per item.
For products purchased repeatedly in everyday life, 61.6% of respondents said they leaned toward bulk purchases. Including those who leaned toward buying only what they needed, more than half of all respondents showed a tendency to choose bulk purchases.
By living arrangement, 70.2% of two-person households said they leaned toward bulk purchases, the highest proportion among the groups. This suggests that demand for bulk purchases exists outside large households as well.
The most common consideration when choosing how to buy was the ability to reduce the price per item, cited by 59.6%. Pricing and how prices are presented are therefore considered important.
By product category, the results showed that a majority chose to buy only what they needed for food, while a majority chose bulk purchases for daily necessities, reportedly indicating that consumers are increasingly choosing between the two approaches depending on the intended use.
