Talent Kunimoto Risa (国本梨紗) from Hakuba Village discussed the benefits of reading newspapers while studying journalism at university. She spoke about subscribing to the digital edition, making use of editorials and finding ways to communicate with younger people.
In an interview held during Newspaper Week, Kunimoto Risa (国本梨紗) recalled that she had been familiar with newspapers since childhood, beginning her reading habit with four-panel comics and the television listings. In junior high school, she used newspapers to prepare for entrance examinations and also took an interest in political articles.
She now subscribes to the digital edition and said she uses newspapers to strengthen her ability to convey facts, rather than only her own opinions, when appearing on information programs. She is majoring in journalism at university and said she is aware of the responsibility that comes with the impact her words can have on viewers.
As values of newspapers, she cited reporting that verifies facts and the ability to convey information within a limited number of characters. In an age when fake news is widespread, she said she has reaffirmed the importance of newspapers. As ways to reach younger generations, she proposed creating articles that use entertainment and familiar topics as an entry point for considering the economy and society, as well as using softer headlines.
She indicated that she intends to continue working in roles that convey local information, such as food reporting, and to continue sharing regional information through her column for MG Press.
