SK hynix is moving forward with plans to invest approximately $45 billion in 2 NAND plants in Marcy, New York, but the US export license for semiconductor manufacturing equipment needed to expand its Dalian plant in China has not been approved, increasing uncertainty.
SK hynix has announced a major plan to build NAND plants in the United States and is expected to invest approximately $45 billion to build 2 NAND plants in Marcy, New York, under the name Solidigm. The total investment could reach as much as $100 billion over the long term, according to reports, but the specific schedule and financing methods remain uncertain. Approval of the Dalian plant expansion is considered a prerequisite for this US investment plan.
Meanwhile, the US Department of Commerce has not yet approved the export license for US-made semiconductor manufacturing equipment needed to expand the Dalian plant in China and has indicated reservations about its policy on introducing additional equipment. As a result, although space at the plant has been secured, delays in the timely installation of new equipment could affect revenue growth and advances in production technology.
