Yokogawa Electric has developed and launched the new OpreX Gas Density Meter. Sales of the non-explosion-proof model begin today, while the IECEx/ATEX-compliant explosion-proof model is scheduled for launch around the end of April 2027.
Yokogawa Electric announced that it had developed the OpreX Gas Density Meter and begun sales of the non-explosion-proof model as a new gas density meter in the OpreX Analyzers series. The meter is equipped with a color touch panel and digital communications functions that improve ease of measurement compared with previous models.
The product can measure changes in gas density at high speed, making it possible to determine changes in gas composition in approximately 5 seconds. Because it can measure the concentration of a two-component gas system in a single unit, it is expected to help reduce equipment costs and improve maintenance efficiency for hydrogen-cooled turbines.
The company plans to comply with IECEx and the ATEX Directive for explosion protection, with the explosion-proof gas density meter expected to launch around the end of April 2027. The product will be developed for a market in which demand is growing for the monitoring of flammable gases such as hydrogen and methane.
Primary markets include power, renewable energy, chemicals, iron and steel, and oil, gas and LNG. Applications include hydrogen purity monitoring, molecular-weight measurement of off-gas, calorific-value measurement of LNG and cross-leak monitoring.
