The US dollar fell to near a three-week low in international markets, while the State Bank of Vietnam's reference rate declined to VND25,632 per US dollar. Commercial banks' quoted rates also fluctuated, generally recovering some of their earlier declines.
The central exchange rate and US dollar prices at commercial banks both declined this morning. The US dollar's weakness was attributed to its trading near a three-week low amid lower US Treasury yields.
The State Bank of Vietnam's reference rate was VND25,632 per US dollar, down VND2 from the previous day. The trading band was ±5%, with an upper limit of VND26,914 and a lower limit of VND24,340. Several commercial banks quoted rates in the range of VND25,670–26,050 per US dollar, with both buying and selling rates down approximately VND20 from the previous day.
The US dollar remained near a three-week low amid lower US Treasury yields. The dollar index stood at 101.79 points after falling 0.3% from the previous day before rising 0.1%, while the euro was down 0.1% at US$1.1220. Lower US Treasury yields and geopolitical tensions curbed demand for safe-haven assets.
Across the market, attention was focused on next week's meetings of the Bank of Japan and other central banks. While the Federal Reserve is expected to leave interest rates unchanged, the possibility of a policy change in December was also being discussed. The Japanese yen was trading around ¥158 to the US dollar, with concerns about foreign exchange intervention persisting.
