Packaging designed by students at Kanazawa College of Art for Koikeya’s new Amaebi Karaage-flavored potato chips was unveiled, with a nationwide launch scheduled from the 26th. Gold-leaf-style and Kutani ware-inspired designs were selected from the proposals, and part of the proceeds will be donated to regional development initiatives and disaster-affected areas.
Of the 6 designs proposed by students at Kanazawa College of Art, a flamboyant design inspired by gold leaf and a design based on Kutani ware’s fine red painting were selected. The product is Koikeya’s “Pride Potato 100% Amaebi Karaage,” made with powdered sweet shrimp and characterized by its savory, roasted flavor.
The product will launch at convenience stores nationwide from the 26th. Part of the proceeds will be donated to cultural promotion initiatives in Kanazawa, Kanazawa College of Art, and areas affected by the Noto Peninsula earthquake. The designers, Sudo Yoshino (須藤 佳乃) and Mouri Amane (毛利 天音), each commented on their designs expressing the character of Kanazawa.
The selection was conducted through a public poll, which received approximately 30,000 votes from across Japan. Kanazawa Mayor Murayama Takashi (村山 卓) and others attended the presentation.
