S&P Dow Jones Indices announced its quarterly index review. The review added 3 companies to the S&P 500 and removed 3 others.
The index provider announced its quarterly rebalancing on 4 September 2026. In this review, Bloom Energy, Illumina and Everpure were added to the S&P 500, while Molson Coors Beverage, The Trade Desk and Builders FirstSource were removed.
The new additions are described as companies expected to grow in clean power supply and in fields that make use of genetic analysis and data. Bloom Energy highlighted its business addressing rising power demand from AI data centers. Illumina has a high market share in the next-generation sequencing sector. Everpure is characterized by its combination of flash-focused storage products and NAND supply.
The companies removed include businesses serving traditional consumer goods and digital advertising-driven demand. The explanation states that the rebalancing was influenced by criteria including market capitalization, liquidity and continued profitability.
Future rebalancing will take place on a regular basis 4 times a year, with extraordinary measures also possible in response to events such as acquisitions or bankruptcies. Reconstitution decisions are made through quarterly reviews.
