A Russian drone attacked a publishing house warehouse in Kharkiv, eastern Ukraine, destroying more than 2,000 copies of 5 picture-book titles translated and printed in Ukrainian with donations from Japanese companies. The titles included a work written by Empress Emerita Michiko.
More than 2,000 of approximately 5,000 copies of 5 Japanese picture-book titles translated and printed in Ukrainian with donations from Japanese companies were destroyed after a Russian drone attacked a publishing house warehouse in Kharkiv, eastern Ukraine, on the 1st.
The donated picture books had been scheduled for free distribution to local schools and children's hospitals, with the Japanese and Ukrainian governments also cooperating on the project. The attack partially damaged the set of 5 titles that had been assembled.
The destroyed titles included "My First Mountain Climb," based on Empress Emerita Michiko's memories of climbing a mountain with her family. A representative of Ranok said that all copies stored in the warehouse had been destroyed, and that a decision on whether to print additional copies would be made after the losses had been assessed.
Excluding the copies lost in the attack, more than half of the 5,000 copies scheduled for free distribution remained intact, according to the report.
