As concerns over AI development regulations spread following the results of the US midterm elections, the Nikkei average continued to decline in morning trading on the Tokyo stock market, with semiconductor-related stocks leading the decline.
The Nikkei average continued to decline in Tokyo stock market trading on the morning of the 5th. The decline temporarily exceeded ¥800. After it became clear that the opposition Democratic Party had regained majorities in both houses following the US midterm elections, concerns over regulations on artificial intelligence (AI) development intensified, leading to declines led by semiconductor-related stocks.
The morning closing price was ¥61,913.51, down ¥275.12 from the previous day's close. The Tokyo Stock Price Index (TOPIX) was up 59.91 points at 3955.29.
Major stock indexes rose in the previous day's US market on expectations that political turmoil would be avoided after US President Trump signaled a willingness to cooperate with the Democratic Party. In the Tokyo market, however, sell orders spread to AI- and data center-related stocks, including SoftBank Group.
