The Nikkei 225 closed at ¥67,777.52 on the 13th in Tokyo, down ¥1,253.40 from the previous Friday, as selling in AI-related stocks weighed on share prices following declines in semiconductor-related stocks in the U.S. market.
At one point during the morning, the Nikkei 225 fell more than ¥1,900, while rising crude oil futures prices, driven by worsening tensions in the Middle East, also weighed on the market.
However, banks, securities firms and insurers were bought at times on expectations ahead of interim earnings and expectations of higher interest rates as inflation accelerates. More than 70% of TSE Prime stocks rose.
