Nikkiso is pursuing a stable supply of dialysis-related products in ASEAN by operating production sites in Thailand and Vietnam and distributing blood tubing production among them. It established its third plant in Quang Ngai Province, Vietnam, in anticipation of future production capacity expansion.
Nikkiso has established a manufacturing network in the ASEAN region focused on hemodialysis-related products. It had 1 site in Thailand and 2 in Vietnam, then added a third site in Quang Ngai Province in 2022 to strengthen local production. This enables it to supply products worldwide, including to Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
The ASEAN sites divide production functions among them. Together with production in Japan, Nikkiso supplies dialysis-related products, including blood tubing, by utilising sites in Ho Chi Minh City in southern Vietnam, Quang Ngai Province in central Vietnam, and a local joint venture in China. Blood tubing involves many labor-intensive processes, making it important to ensure a stable supply.
The decision to establish a third plant in Quang Ngai Province, Vietnam, reflected increased production volumes and the limited scope for further expansion at the Ho Chi Minh plant. The new facility is positioned as a measure to prepare for future growth in demand. Its location was selected after comprehensive consideration of logistics, labor and infrastructure, including access to export logistics.
Diversifying the production and procurement network enhanced mutual complementarity, including through the transfer of some production to the Thailand site during the COVID-19 pandemic. Raw materials are sourced from Japan, ASEAN and Europe, while local sourcing of PVC in Vietnam is being expanded, with an emphasis on quality and stable supply.
