The Russian national man detained in Japan was extradited from Japan this month at Germany's request. He is believed to be an executive of the international hacker group “Qilin” and is under investigation by the relevant authorities.
The man was suspected of illegally obtaining and encrypting data from a German logistics company last year and extorting virtual assets worth approximately ¥26 million as ransom. According to people familiar with the matter, he was detained in Osaka in May, leading to his extradition.
Cyberattacks on Japanese companies continue to occur one after another, and official app membership management systems are increasingly being targeted deliberately. Leaks have been confirmed involving app membership information for approximately 570,000 Seicomart members and approximately 10.78 million Yakiniku King members.
Measures to reduce the risk of information leaks include minimising optional information fields, deleting unused apps and regularly reviewing the information held.
