According to Nikkei, JX金属 and The Japan Steel Works will increase total production capacity for the copper alloy “titanium copper” for AI data centers by 50%, investing ¥10 billion. The production expansion is targeted for fiscal 2029, representing a 50% increase versus fiscal 2026.
According to a Nikkei article, The Japan Steel Works and JX金属 will jointly invest, with ownership interests of 51% and 49%, respectively, to strengthen the production system for copper alloys for AI data centers. The alloy in question is the heat-resistant copper alloy “titanium copper,” which addresses increased heat generation as GPU performance improves.
The companies plan to invest ¥10 billion in total to expand production capacity, establish a mass-production system for the copper alloy and respond to growing demand. The production increase is intended to expand titanium-copper supplies and improve the heat resistance of connection components prone to heat generation.
As the first step in the project, the companies will collaborate with The Japan Steel Works holding 51% and JX金属 holding 49%. Both companies expect the wider adoption of AI data centers and higher-performance GPUs to drive demand for copper alloys.
Production capacity is planned to increase by approximately 50% in fiscal 2029 from fiscal 2026. The production increase is intended to strengthen the supply structure and expand connection components that use the alloy’s heat resistance.
