Mizuho Securities President Hamamoto Kichiro (浜本吉郎) told Reuters in an interview that investment in Japan by overseas companies and investors would be a key strategic focus, and that the firm would strengthen support for large-scale deals, including finding sites for semiconductor plants, as well as arranging financing.
Mizuho Securities President Hamamoto Kichiro (浜本吉郎) said attracting investment in Japan from overseas companies and investors would be a key strategic focus, explaining that interest in assets was increasing as growth investment by Japanese companies gained momentum. He said the firm would prioritize highly profitable US deals and Japan-related transactions, and emphasized the importance of ROE and inbound investment.
He described overseas investors' investment in Japanese equities as the company's “staple food” in terms of rice, while indicating that supporting the search for sites for semiconductor plants and arranging the necessary financing represented a major revenue opportunity in large-scale deals.
Mizuho Securities said it would leverage the capabilities of Mizuho Bank and other group companies to support overseas companies and funds with site purchases and financing, JVs and investments with Japanese companies, and acquisitions. In addition to debt financing, it will promote asset-side monetization and broaden the supply of funds through CLS, REITs and securitized products.
The firm plans to expand its workforce in Japan and overseas, adding several dozen employees, particularly junior bankers, to handle an increase in M&A transactions.
The backdrop includes changes in the financial environment resulting from the normalization of interest rates and efforts to improve capital efficiency. As demand for funds expands, the need to use a wider range of financing methods is also growing.
