Marubeni President Omoto Masayuki (大本 晶之) moved to a foreign-affiliated consulting firm at 36, but returned to Marubeni just 1.5 years later. About a year after becoming president, he helped the company surpass ¥10 trillion in market capitalization.
After joining Marubeni in 1992, President Omoto Masayuki (大本 晶之) built his career in the Heavy Electrical Equipment Division and became involved in the power-generation business from its early stages, including working on an IPP project in Turkey when he was around 30. An IPP is a business model in which a company invests in and owns power-generation facilities and sells electricity over the long term. It played a major role in Marubeni's early initiatives.
At 36, he moved to McKinsey & Company, then returned to Marubeni just 1.5 years later. His decision to return was unusual and is understood to have been driven by a desire to understand the full picture of operating the company's businesses and to identify growth opportunities after rejoining Marubeni.
Omoto Masayuki (大本 晶之) became president at the age of 55 in April 2025. As of February 2026, Marubeni's market capitalization had exceeded ¥10 trillion, expanding sharply from the previous fiscal year. Having achieved the targets of its medium-term management strategy ahead of schedule, the company is now aiming to rank among the world's top 100 companies by market capitalization.
