As the yen continues to strengthen, the prices of the new iPhones in Japan appear to exceed levels based on their U.S.-dollar prices, implying an exchange rate of around ¥166–¥168 to the dollar. Prices for the new iPhones remain high in Japan, which could also affect the timing of local price revisions.
The Japanese prices of the new foldable iPhone, the “iPhone Duo,” and the new “iPhone 18 Pro/Pro Max” models have been disclosed. The iPhone Duo is said to be priced at ¥364,800 in Japan and $1,999 before tax in the United States.
The dollar-yen exchange rate moved to around ¥163 in late July, and the yen continued to strengthen as of 10 September. It has been reported that prices of products in Japan were previously revised to around ¥162 to the dollar, and subsequently to the low ¥150s.
The 18 Pro and Pro Max models both have 256GB versions, priced at ¥219,800 for the $1,199 model and ¥239,800 for the $1,299 model. These prices have been described as unfavorable for users in Japan.
The implied exchange rate derived from the latest pricing is said to be around ¥166 to the dollar, prompting the view that the cost of purchasing in Japan will be higher than overseas.
Prices could be revised depending on future developments in the foreign-exchange market, but no specific timing has been indicated.
